Brentwood-based Compassus, a nationwide network of community-based post-acute care services focused on hospice, palliative and home health, has been named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in America for the second consecutive year. Nashville-based ProviderTrust made the list for a third time after the software company posted 249 percent growth.

U.S. News and World Report has announced its 2018-19 list of best hospitals. Vanderbilt University Medical Center not only made the list but also has landed on the 2018-19 Best Hospital Honor Roll alongside the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins and others. Vanderbilt came in at #17 in the top 20 hospitals in the nation. On a statewide basis, Vanderbilt was ranked number one. Saint Thomas West Hospital was ranked fourth in the state and noted as 'high performing' in six procedures/conditions. TriStar Centennial Medical Center tied for #5 in the state and was recognized as 'high performing' in five procedures/conditions. Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital rounded out the state's top 10 with a designation of 'high performing' in three procedures/conditions.

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) announced $15.7 million award to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to test the effectiveness of a novel method of stroke care. The study will compare the current way of delivering stroke care with a redesigned model of stroke care that includes greater integration between rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities as well as lay health educators who make home visits.

The Greater Nashville American Heart Association recently announce Herman Williams, MD, and his wife, Jeannie Williams, as the co-chairs for the 2019 Middle Tennessee Heart Gala, which is set for January 26, 2019 at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Williams is chief clinical officer for RCCH HealthCare Partners, which recently announced a merger with LifePoint Health.

Tennessee's Health Parks Healthy Person program - a joint effort of Tennessee State Parks and Tennessee Department of Health - has won national recognition. The program, which rewards park goers for participating in outdoor activities as tracked through a mobile app, was designated a 2018 SHIFT Awards Official Selection. The SHIFT awards recognize the ways pioneers, early adopters and thought leaders from around the country are integrating time outdoors in nature into the healthcare system and daily life.

Lipscomb University's physician assistant program has been granted provisional accreditation by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, making it only the second such accredited program in Middle Tennessee.
