TriStar Centennial Women's Hospital recently announced the opening of a Milk Bank Depot for moms to donate frozen breast milk. The depot is part of Mothers' Milk Bank of Tennessee (MMBTN), a non-profit organization providing safe donor milk to benefit infants in need within Tennessee. TriStar Centennial is the eighth depot to join the organization across the state.

The new location will serve as a collection site for downtown Nashville and surrounding areas. Donor milk is then pasteurized before being distributed to Tennessee hospitals. Potential donors must complete an initial phone screening and blood test to ensure they meet stringent eligibility requirements. Donors must be in overall good health, non-smokers, consume less than two alcoholic drinks per day, not regularly use medication or herbal supplements and be willing to donate 100 ounces of milk initially. Donations are accepted for the first year after birth. Donors are also required to provide their own transportation to the drop off location. More information is at milkbanktn.org.
