The state passes a couple of grim COVID-19 milestones today with more than 1,000 Tennesseans dead and more than 100,000 having been infected with the novel coronavirus since data collection began.

Due to technical difficulties at the Tennessee Department of Health, Metro Nashville did not receive updated data in time for the morning report.

By this afternoon, however, the Tennessee Department of Health was able to provide updated statewide numbers. TDH reports 100,822 confirmed cases, an increase of 1,778 since yesterday. The state has recorded 1,020 deaths, up 21 since yesterday. There have been 4,482 hospitalized statewide (up 110 in 24 hours) and 62,129 recovered (an increase of 2,369 individuals since yesterday). A total of 1,455,120 Tennesseans have been tested for COVID-19 (an increase of 19,687 in 24 hours).

Despite rising case numbers and actual numbers of deaths, the statewide death rate has continued to drop. Currently, the state's death rate sits at 1.01, down from 1.05 on Friday and 1.3 on July 1.
