At the end of June, U.S. Congressman Jim Cooper (D-TN), Saint Thomas Health President & COO Karen Springer, Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, Tennessee Justice Center Executive Director Michele Johnson, State Sen. Richard Briggs (R-Knoxville), State Sen. Jeff Yarbro (D-Nashville) and other leaders hosted a bipartisan roundtable discussion to reflect on the future of healthcare in Tennessee in the wake of the recent King v. Burwell Supreme Court decision.

Held at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital, the group was unanimous in their support of Insure Tennessee, Gov. Bill Haslam’s plan to expand insurance coverage to those who fall in the gap that has twice met defeat in the Tennessee Legislature.

“Insure Tennessee makes sense for our economy and even more sense for our people,” Mayor Dean said. “Our uninsured citizens need it; our economy needs it; and our sense of humanity demands it. It’s time that we take care of our neighbors.”

Springer added, “It is our mission to care for the widow, the orphan, the forgotten, and the neglected. To that end, it is imperative that we continue to fight for this cause.”
