LifePoint Health has appointed J.L. Osei Mevs to the role of chief of staff. Previously, he served as director of Government Relations. In his new role, Mevs will work closely with Bill Carpenter, LifePoint’s chairman and CEO, and will serve as a pivotal point of contact with key internal and external stakeholders 

Mevs has more than 15 years of experience in public policy and legislative strategy, regulatory research and analysis, government relations, business development and community outreach. Prior to joining LifePoint, Mevs served as vice president of external affairs and business development at Meharry Medical College. He earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from New York University and his master’s in public health/health policy and management from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health in New York. Mevs is a Fellow of the Nashville Health Care Council.

In other news, LifePoint completed the acquisition of St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Ga. at the beginning of the year. Also last month, Duke LifePoint Healthcare announced the acquisition of Central Carolina Hospital and Frye Regional Medical Center from Tenet Healthcare Corporation. Central Carolina is a 137-bed hospital in Sanford and Frye Regional a 335-bed hospital in Hickory. The acquisition also included 19 regional physician practices.
