Chase Hendrickson, MD, MPH, assistant professor of Medicine in the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism, has been named executive medical director of the Medicine Patient Care Center (PCC).
This transition comes after Bryan Harris, MD, who formerly held the position, was appointed executive vice chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine.
“I am extremely excited to be moving into this new role. The PCCs are all built on a strong leadership structure, and I am looking forward to working closely with a nursing and operations leader to accomplish our goals,” Hendrickson said.
Hendrickson earned his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in his hometown of Oklahoma City. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Yale-New Haven Hospital. Subsequently, he trained at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, completing a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism and a residency in leadership preventive medicine, in addition to earning a Master of Public Health degree at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice.
Hendrickson’s clinical interests include diabetes and general endocrinology, and working with fellows in clinic is the highlight of any day for him, he said. While stepping away from his role as an associate program director for the endocrinology fellowship, he will continue to run the fellowship’s journal club and oversee the fellows’ quality improvement work. He recently launched the fourth season of the Endocrine Feedback Loop, a podcast he created and hosts with the Endocrine Society.
“Dr. Hendrickson has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence as the medical director for Endocrinology, and he is well-equipped to take on this new role,” Harris said. “His dedication to the well-being of patients and his colleagues is evident, and his ingenuity in tackling novel challenges will be a great asset to his new role. I am thrilled to be leaving the leadership of the Medicine PCC in such skillful hands.”
As the executive medical director of the Medicine PCC, Hendrickson will oversee the outpatient and inpatient operations of multiple specialties within the Department of Medicine. In addition to helping with some of the day-to-day challenges, he will assist with strategic planning, quality initiatives and patient access, partnering with leaders in the department and throughout the institution.
“Dr. Hendrickson has demonstrated his leadership and administrative skills in his recent work with the Eskind Diabetes Center and is bringing an even stronger vision to the Medicine PCC. He will bring an exciting new perspective to this key institutional role,” said Kimryn Rathmell, MD, PhD, Hugh J. Morgan Professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine.
