After a distinguished career spanning 16 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Jim Hayman, MS, MBA, is retiring from his position as Executive Vice President for the Shared Clinical Services on Dec. 31.
Hayman, who joined VUMC in 2008 as chief pharmacy officer, has made a significant impact on the Medical Center’s growth through his contributions to the areas he has led.
As the chief pharmacy officer, Hayman strengthened and advanced pharmacy services. His experience in shared services operations and his understanding of core services led to his current appointment in 2022.
Hayman has been instrumental in shaping the shared services model and aligning administrative and organizational aspects of VUMC’s pharmacy, laboratory and sterile processing services. His leadership has fostered greater alignment, standardization and efficiencies within these services.
“As Jim embarks on this new chapter, I want to wish him all the best in his retirement. His efforts as our longtime pharmacy leader and as founding leader of the Shared Clinical Services Division have left an indelible mark on VUMC,” said C. Wright Pinson, MBA, MD, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health System Officer for VUMC.
The Shared Clinical Services Division supports VUMC’s various entities such as Vanderbilt University Hospital, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, and Vanderbilt Health Services along with Vanderbilt Health’s community hospitals and ambulatory clinics.
Prior to joining VUMC, Hayman held leadership positions in both pharmacy and hospital administration for health systems in Indiana and Mississippi. During his 20-plus-year tenure at Parkland Health & Hospital System in Dallas, he served in senior leadership roles in pharmacy, pathology, radiology, professional services, and clinical support.
Hayman’s impact on the health care industry extends beyond VUMC. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists and serves as chair of McKesson’s Pharmacy Executive Alliance. His contributions to the field have helped shape industry standards and best practices, earning him recognition as a leader in specialty pharmacy.
“Vanderbilt has been the highlight of my 50-plus-year health care career. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve in various leadership roles during my time at VUMC,” Hayman said.
VUMC will be seeking applicants for a new Shared Clinical Services Division leader and will be posting the position soon.
