On Nov. 14, officials with Vanderbilt University Medical Center announced the institution is embarking on the process to restructure the academic medical facility as a financially distinct entity from Vanderbilt University. The announcement stressed the two organizaitons would "remain tightly woven together by mission, academic programs, and the respected Vanderbilt name." Jeff Balser, MD, PhD, vice chancellor for Health Affairs will continue to lead both VUMC and to serve as dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
