On Febuary 5, the American Hospital Association sent comments to Ceners for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Marilyn B. Tavenner outlining thoughts and concerns regarding the Medicare Shared Savings Program proposed rule, which was published on Dec. 8, 2014.
While the organization representing 5,000 hospitals across the nation and 43,000 individual members was pleased to see some changes to reduce the administrative burden of participating in Accountable Care Organizations, AHA leadership believes the design, as laid out in the proposed rule, still offers too many 'sticks' and not enough 'carrots' to encourage broad participation.
