More new cases locally and statewide with an expectation of more to come as 4th of July festivities come home to roost over the next week or so.

Over the weekend, federal judge Eli Richardson denied local bar owners' request for a temporary restraining order against city officials mandating and enforcing COVID-19 restrictions. The plaintiffs' attorney, Bryan Lewis, said they plan to move forward with their case against the city. Bar owners, led by Steve Smith, who are behind the suit have cited a perceived unfairness in allowing crowds to gather for protests but not to gather in their businesses. Public health officials here and in cities across the nation have cited bars as being a key accelerant of virus transmission.

Metro Nashville

As of today, Nashville reports 14,702 cases, a jump of 164 cases in 24 hours and 900 cases since this time on Friday. There are currently 5,035 active cases in Nashville (up 243 since Friday), 9,526 individuals who have recovered (up 599 since Friday), and 141 deaths (an addition of 8 deaths over the weekend). The Metro COVID-19 Dashboard lists 176 active hospitalizations, which is actually down 22 since Friday.

In Davidson County, 123,011 tests have been administered with a positive rate of 12% (up from 11.6% on Friday, from 10.7% on July 1 and 9.4% on June 1).

On the trend lines, the transmission rate and 14-day new case trend both remain in the red. Capacities for public health and testing remain in the green. Capacities for both hospital beds and ICU beds, which were in the yellow on Friday, have now returned to green.

Masks are required in Nashville, and a number of other surrounding counties have also begun instituting mandatory mask regulations. Additionally, public health officials continue to ask (beg) residents to be vigilant in maintaining social distancing measures, as well as to go out as little as possible, wash hands frequently and stay home if ill.

Tennessee State

Tennessee has now confirmed 65,274 cases of COVID-19, up 3,314 since yesterday and 5,728 since Friday. Currently, 36,996 Tennesseans have recovered (up 1,141 since yesterday), 3,284 have been hospitalized (up 34 in the last 24 hours), and 749 deaths have been reported (up 8 since yesterday and 26 since Friday). To date, there have been 1,053,424 tests for COVID-19, an increase of 35,926 since yesterday.
