COVID-19 activity is picking up across the state, including in Davidson County. While today saw an increase of 128 cases, reports of new cases on both Monday and Tuesday topped 200 over a 24-hour period. Additionally, Nashville has returned to the red on transmission rate, seen an increase in hospitalizations, and a decrease in ICU bed capacity.

The state jumped more than 6,500 cases over the weekend into the beginning of this week and added another 1,147 cases yesterday. Like Nashville, hospitalizations are on the rise with more than 1,000 reported on Tuesday. Deaths statewide are closing in on 2,800, with last Thursday recording the highest number of deaths over a 24-hour period with 63 fatalities reported. In the five days since then (not counting today), the state has recorded another 92 fatalities.

Metro Nashville

As of 9:30 today, the city reported 30,957 confirmed cases, an increase of 128 since yesterday and of more than 1,000 over the past week. There are currently 1,514 active cases in Nashville, 29,158 inactive or recovered cases and 178 active hospitalizations. With 285 deaths, the city has a case fatality rate of 0.92%. In Davidson County, 446,836 tests have been administered with a positive rate of 6.9%.

Out of 8 metrics on the trend lines, Nashville has 4 in the green, 3 in the yellow and 1 in the red. With a goal for transmission to be less than 1.01, the city's current transmission rate is 1.17, moving it into the red after a week in the yellow and several weeks before that in the green. The 14-day case rate, however, remains in the green with a flat or decreasing trend in new cases. Public health and testing capacity remain in the green, as they have throughout.

As of 9:30 am this morning, hospital floor bed capacity remained in the yellow with 14% availability. ICU beds also remained yellow at 11% capacity. The goal for both hospital and ICU bed capacity is 20%.

The New Cases per 100K Residents remains in the yellow this week. The goal of the seven-day rolling average is to be at 10 or below. Currently, Nashville sits at 22.1 (significantly up from 15.5 on this metric last week). The goal for the 7-Day Positivity Rate is to see a figure at 10% or less. Currently, Nashville remains in the green with a rate of 4.6% as of 9:30 this morning (but worth noting, the rate was 3.6% at the end of last week).

Tennessee State

This afternoon, the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) confirmed 1,709 new cases of COVID-19 with the state total hitting 220,538. There are currently 1,102 hospitalizations (up 25 from yesterday) and 2,828 deaths (up 31 in 24 hours) for a death rate of 1.28. More than 3.2 million tests have been administered statewide (up 17,898 since yesterday). The number of inactive/recovered cases statewide is 198,465. Hospitalizations continue to be on the rise, largely driven by cases in rural areas across the state.
