Shailee Shah, MD, MS, has joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center as an assistant professor in the Division of Neuroimmunology within the Department of Neurology.

The Neuroimmunology Division encompasses the research, treatment and management of multiple sclerosis (MS), which accounts for about 80% of patient visits. The clinic also serves as a treatment and resource center for other neurological autoimmune diseases, including neuroimmune disorders such as Neuromyelitis optica, autoimmune anti MOG antibody syndromes, Susac’s syndrome, neurosarcoidosis, CNS paraneoplastic disorders, inflammatory and degenerative leucodystrophies, chronic meningitis and chronic inflammatory optic neuritis.

Shah earned her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, and did her residency at Northwestern University. She received a Masters of Biomedical Science and completed fellowships in neuroimmunology and autoimmune neurology at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Vanderbilt’s Neurology Department and look forward to caring for patients with paraneoplastic and autoimmune neurological disorders,” Shah said.

Shah is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Neurological Association.

“The VUMC Neurology department is very fortunate to have recruited Dr. Shah. After her residency at Northwestern, Dr. Shah trained at the Mayo Clinic, and her research program focused on novel neuroimmunology diagnostic and treatment approaches, which will ensure VUMC remains at the forefront of patient care,” said Dane Chetkovich, MD, PhD, chair of the Department of Neurology and Margaret and John Warner Professor of Neurological Education.
