Leading Telehealth Physician Heads Medical Operations

 

NASHVILLE - Edward C. O’Bryan, M.D., M.B.A., C.P.E., a leading physician in telehealth and digital health, has joined Graham Healthcare Capital (GHCC) as its Chief Medical Officer, according to Managing Partner David Curtis.

Dr. O’Bryan brings more than 18 years of clinical and leadership experience to Graham. In his role as Chief Medical Officer, he will assist Graham’s portfolio companies in realizing potential and in evaluating new business opportunities and investment targets for clinical quality, effectiveness, and market and regulatory dynamics. In addition, he is focused on developing next generation digital quality tools for portfolio company CSI Pharmacy, as well as exploring practice optimization and the use of digital healthcare tools in performance optimization for other portfolio companies.

In making the announcement, Curtis said, “Dr. O’Bryan has a unique combination of clinical and entrepreneurial experience. He brings a creative and innovative patient care approach and understands the full healthcare continuum. His work in both private practices and academic medical centers will be a real asset to our portfolio companies.”

Before coming to GHCC, Dr. O’Bryan served as Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Clinical Operations for Truepill, a telehealth, digital pharmacy, and digital diagnostics company. He oversaw program and business development, quality, strategy provider network building, partnerships, and KPI development. Prior to Truepill he was the Chief Medical Officer, Executive Vice President and VPMA of Clinical Operations at Wellpath, where he oversaw clinical in-person and telehealth operations in 38 states for more than 300,000 patients a day. 

Dr. O’Bryan expressed his enthusiasm for joining the GHCC team. “The healthcare work that Graham and its portfolio companies are doing are excellent examples of the direction of healthcare today,” he said. “They present outstanding platforms to further our digital and telehealth capabilities, all to strengthen our delivery of healthcare.”

Before his work at Wellpath, Dr. O’Bryan was at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where he served as the Enterprise Chief Medical Officer for Telehealth and Business Health. In addition, he was the Executive Director of MUSC Health Solutions, a novel system-wide accelerator for rapid commercialization of innovative digital medical products, services, partnerships, and ideas, and served as the Medical Director of the Physicians Assistant Program and Chief of the Division of Telehealth.

Academically, Dr. O’Bryan maintains his position as an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at MUSC where he was previously Chief of the Division of Global Health and Telehealth and Chief of the Health and Wellness Service Line.  He has over $15 million in funded research and numerous publications and academic presentations.  He attended Davidson College, received his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina, and his M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee.
