At the end of October, officials from Saint Thomas Health hosted a topping-out ceremony to celebrate completion of the latest major project milestone for Surgical Services at Saint Thomas West Hospital as the final beam was dropped into place by Turner Construction Company.

The ceremony recognized a milestone in the completion of a new 55,000-square foot, three-story addition to Surgical Services, part of a multi-phase expansion to Saint Thomas West Hospital that began in 2012. The total expansion project includes improvements to approximately 120,000 square feet within the hospital, such as renovations to six ICU wings, containing 88 ICU rooms; a dialysis suite; nine new operating rooms; new imaging offices; new holding areas for patients in the catheter lab; the family waiting area adjacent to the Surgical Services addition; the cardiac short-stay areas and a Chest Pain Center; and the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) area connected to the Surgical Services addition.
