Anton Reiner, PhD, a professor in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology in the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center has received a $617,000 grant from the Cure for Huntington’s Disease to study the hereditary, degenerative brain disease that usually becomes apparent around 40 years of age and ultimately results in the destruction of the cerebral cortex and basal ganglia.

Researchers at Vanderbilt University Medical Center have received more than $11 million in new grant support aimed at slowing the growing burden of diabetes. The central theme and unifying focus of two grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and one from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is to improve understanding of changes that occur in the human pancreatic islet in type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
