As 2015 drew to a close, HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Franklin celebrated the grand opening of this new, freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital, which includes 40 all-private rooms and an onsite therapy gym. Utilizing cutting-edge rehabilitation technologies, the staff provides comprehensive physical rehabilitation to patients who have experienced stroke, trauma, brain and orthopedic injuries, and other major illnesses or injuries.

In November, Scott Peterson, MPA, was named CEO of the hospital. Previously he was with Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital – a joint venture between Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt Health Services, LLC, and HealthSouth – where he has served as associate administrator since 2013. Peterson earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Cornell University and a graduate certificate in health policy and management from the University of Southern Maine’s Muskie School of Public Service.

In January, HealthSouth announced the hiring of Scott Craig, MD, as medical director of the Franklin facility. Previously, he served as the medical director of Van Matre HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Rockford, Ill., for 11 years. A magna cum laude graduate of Loyola University, he completed his medical studies at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine and his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital-Clinics. He is board certified in PM&R and pain medicine. Joining Craig at the hospital as independent practice physicians are Tia Aryal, MD, a neurologist from Williamson Medical Center and Jennifer Santana, MD, a nephrologist. The team will work together to assess patients’ medical needs to provide a thorough plan of care.

In other HealthSouth, Nashville-headquartered Gresham, Smith and Partners announced last month the firm has been selected by HealthSouth to provide architectural and interior design services for the expansion and renovation of Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital in Birmingham. Construction at the 100-bed, 42-year-old facility is slated to begin in early 2016 and finish in the first quarter of 2019.
