Karen Winkfield, MD, PhD, professor of Radiation Oncology and Ingram Professor of Cancer Research, will be named a fellow of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) on Oct. 3 during the organization’s annual meeting.
Winkfield, who also serves as executive director of the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance, joins a select group. Since its inception in 2006, the Fellow of the American Society for Radiation Oncology has been awarded to just 450 of the organization’s 10,000 members.
Only a few are selected each year for the honor.
“Dr. Winkfield joins an elite group of just 29 physicians and medical physicists who are recognized this year for their far-reaching contributions to the field of radiation oncology and their progress in advancing cancer research, education and patient care,” said Geraldine Jacobson, MD, MBA, MPH, chair of the ASTRO board of directors. “Congratulations to Dr. Winkfield for achieving the designation of ASTRO fellow.”
