BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has appointed David Moroney, MD, FAAP, as medical director of provider network innovations. He will provide medical oversight for BlueCross innovation pilot programs, as well as provider partnerships, Patient-Centered Medical Homes, and the Tennessee Health Care Innovation Initiative.
Before joining the provider network innovations team, Moroney served six years as chief medical officer of BlueCare Tennessee, a BlueCross subsidiary operating managed care for Medicaid and special-needs populations statewide. With the exception of a two-year period from 2004-2005, Moroney has worked with BlueCross in various capacities since 1998. Prior to that, he spent 18 years in private practice as a general pediatrician and also served as a clinical associate professor at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
Moroney earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of New Orleans, his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine, and an MHA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Moroney completed a residency in pediatrics at Vanderbilt and is a board certified pediatrician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
