The Nashville Health Care Council has launched recruitment for the 2017 Fellows class, an annual initiative open to top health care executives from around the country looking to explore new business strategies to address the challenges facing the American health care system. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 21, 2016.
Founded in 2013 as a response to the sweeping change and transformation occurring in healthcare, Fellows leverages Nashville's legacy of industry expertise to create an open and collaborative forum for thought leadership. The program is co-led by former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, MD, and Larry Van Horn, a leading expert in healthcare management and economics and professor at Vanderbilt University's Owen Graduate School of Management.
"Fellows is a unique program because of not only the high quality of leaders it brings together, both class participants and speakers, but also the direct impact it has on one of our nation's largest industries," Senator Frist said. "While many great strides have been made in recent years, too many in healthcare continue to address the complex challenges of our field within silos. The Fellows program tears down the walls between healthcare's many sectors and brings leaders from diverse focus areas to the table, to collaborate and work together toward a smarter healthcare system."
CLASS DETAILS
The Fellows initiative annually engages a select group of approximately 30 senior executives in a nationally unique curriculum over eight, day-long sessions. Discussions focus on business strategies, creating value, driving industry growth and effecting change, on both local and national levels, while also taking into account the latest emerging industry trends. The work of the class includes strategic and collaborative discussion, individualized leadership development and in-the-field immersion with leading healthcare organizations.
"Amid such momentous change, the future of healthcare depends on how industry leaders work together to find meaningful solutions to the evolving challenges they all face," said Van Horn. "Nashville, home to more than 400 healthcare companies of varying sizes and sectors, is perfectly positioned to host these national forums. Through the Fellows program, senior leaders can tap directly into the unmatched expertise of the Nashville healthcare community and gain access to industry talent that's simply not available anywhere else."
Adding to the thoughts and insights of the Fellows will be a distinguished group of renowned thought leaders facilitating the discussions, representing innovative companies, government agencies and academia.
"The Fellows is critical to the work of the Council as we proactively address the issues our members are dealing with on a daily basis, such as the rise of consumerism and new technologies," said Hayley Hovious, Council president. THE 2017 APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications are encouraged and accepted from a wide range of sectors within the industry -- from privately held start-ups to publicly traded corporations -- including service delivery, hospital management, managed care, HIT, life sciences, technology, law, finance, government and communications. To be considered for the program, applicants must be employed by a member company of the Council, or be a government employee or a practicing clinician.
